The San Juanico Bridge, which connects the islands of Samar and Leyte, was inaugurated after four years of construction during the Marcos administration. The bridge, which spans 2.1 kilometers, was former President Ferdinand Marcos’ gift to his wife Imelda. In August 2012, it sustained minor damage during a 7.6-magnitude earthquake.

The port of Tagbilaran in Bohol province was established by virtue of Executive Order No. 435 signed by former President Carlos Garcia. In November 2015, a new passenger terminal was inaugurated in the port to replace the original facility that sustained heavy damage when a 7.1-magnitude quake rocked the province in 2013. The new facility has a seating capacity of 500 and is equipped with X-ray machines, nursing rooms, a ballistic exam room, prayer room and other amenities.
