DAGUPAN CITY — A suspected robber was killed in a Thursday police operation when he attempted to extort money from a couple he allegedly mugged at dawn in Urdaneta City.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, reportedly held up Carol Jovellanos Tan, 36, and Mark Francis Bauzon, 35, at 3 a.m. The suspect tailed the motorcycle-riding couple as they drove through the Sta. Barbara Highway.
The suspect intercepted them in his motorcycle and seized the couple’s computer pad, a mobile telephone and a wallet containing P700 cash. The couple reported the crime to the Urdaneta police station.
At 7 a.m., the suspect contacted the couple and promised to return the stolen items at a restaurant in exchange for P20,000.
Alerted by the couple, an undercover policeman met the suspect on their behalf with marked money. The suspect drew a handgun when he sensed it was a trap and was shot dead by the policeman.
The police are trying to determine the identity of the suspect. JE/rga
