Police are investigating the discovery of bullets and a gun part in donations for victims of the war in Marawi City.

The 159 9-mm bullets and a 9-mm pistol magazine were found in an ecobag mixed with donations sent to the condominium unit if Mohaimen Mutalib in Mandaluyong City Monday night.

Mutalib, who hails from Marawi, organized a donation drive for his displaced fellow Maranaos and was arranging the items he received when he found the contraband, state-run radio dzRB reported on Tuesday.

Mutalib identified a certain AJ who brought the donations, the report said, quoting Eastern Police District Director Police Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula.

It was Mutalib who reported to authorities the discovery of the bullets and gun magazine.

Hundreds of thousands of Marawi residents have been displaced for more than a month since May 23, 2017, when Islamist terror group Maute and members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) invaded Marawi to declare an Islamic state. FM/CBB/rga
