The Muntinlupa City government has donated P2 million to Marawi City, where thousands of residents have been displaced by clashes between government troops and the Maute terrorist group.
Marawi city engineer Sirad Daligdig, representing Mayor Majul Usman Gandamra, personally accepted the P2-million check from Mayor Jaime Fresnedi on Thursday.
According to the public information bureau of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the month-old Marawi siege has forced the evacuation of more than 40,000 families or around 200,000 individuals.
Nazruddin Dianalan, director of the Bagsamoro Federal Business District Council Inc., noted that Muntinlupa was so far the biggest donor among the local governments that had given assistance to Marawi, following Davao City which gave P1 million.
“Every centavo given to the people of Marawi goes a long way for their rehabilitation,” Dianalan said.
City public information officer Tez Navarro said Muntinlupa was also the first local government unit in Metro Manila to extend financial assistance to Marawi. —Dexter Cabalza
