Fake cop, accomplice killed by Bulacan cops after foiled extort try
BOCAUE, Bulacan — A fake police officer and his accomplice were killed by police officers who foiled their attempt to extort money from a Bulacan resident on Monday (June 19).
Ryan dela Cruz, who identified himself as a police officer 2 (PO2), and his unidentified companion, fired at police officers who staged an entrapment operation in Barangay Batia at 7 p.m. They were killed when the police officers returned fire.
But their alleged leader, former Bocaue cop PO1 Dan Lee Mamangun, managed to escape, said Supt. Jowen dela Cruz, Bocaue police chief.
The operation was undertaken following a complaint made by Alvin Colivar, who said he was being asked to pay the suspects in exchange for the dismissal of a drug charge filed against his brother. Colivar’s brother was detained at the town jail.
A check made with the Bulacan Provincial Police Office shows there was no record of a policeman named PO2 Ryan dela Cruz.
Dela Cruz said Mamangun was dismissed from service after being charged with robbery and extortion and with planting evidence. Mamangun’s group had also been tied to the sale of illegal drugs. –Carmela Reyes-Estrope /atm/rga/rga
