2 bishops succumb to cancer
La Union Bishop Rodolfo Beltran — succumbed to cancer on the same day over the weekend.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines said Tumulak, 72, died of pancreatic cancer at 1:26 p.m. on Saturday at the Cardinal Santos Hospital, while Beltran, 68, died of prostate cancer six hours later at the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital.
Tumulak was a native of Santander, Cebu, and was a priest for 46 years, 30 of which he served as bishop in various prelacies in the country.
Beltran was born in Gattaran, Cagayan, and was a priest for 41 years, 11 years as bishop. He had only been bishop of San Fernando for four years at the time of his death.
