A drug convict who recently escaped from the Sablayan penal farm, purportedly to see his dying father and mend his strained family relations, was captured in Makati on Friday.

“Sayang siya (What a waste),” Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Benjamin de los Santos said of Lory Gamboa, 40, who was supposed to become eligible for parole on Aug. 26 this year.

“Due to his escape, he forfeited the good conduct time credits. He will be back to zero.”

“He said he wanted to go home in Makati to see his dying father and mend his relationship with his wife and children who had already left him,” added Senior Insp. Anthony Bagsik, chief of Makati Police Community Police 6, who led the arrest of Gamboa in Guadalupe Viejo, where he lived before he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2005.
