2 hurt in Sulu blast, police tag Abu Sayyaf

MANILA, Philippines—Two persons were hurt after an improvised explosive device went off in Sulu Tuesday, Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Philippine National Police spokesperson said.

Cruz identified the victims as village councilor Ahamadul Akjam and one Nurhussin Ladja, who were injured in a bomb blast at Sitio (sub-village) Kaban-Kaban in Timpook village, Patikul, Sulu at around 7:10 a.m.

Suspected Abu Sayyaf Group members may have planted the bomb, police said.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Cruz said authorities are investigating the incident.
