DARAGA, Albay – A businessman from Lanao del Sur was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Daraga town in Albay province Tuesday evening, police said Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Arthur R. Gomez, Albay police spokesman, said in his Facebook post that the victim, Jamael Malawi, 33, was shot and killed on T. Perez Street in Barangay (village) Market Site at around 6:15 p.m.
Malawi sustained bullet wounds on different parts of the body and he died on the spot. Police said the shots that hit Malawi came from a gun of unknown caliber.
Witnesses described the gunman to be stout, of white complexion, 5’6″ to 5’7″ in height, wearing an orange t-shirt and dark “maong” (denim) pants with black and green backpack. The gunman fled towards the interior part of the public market after the shooting.
The victim died while being taken to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, also in Daraga.
Gomez said the victim was a businessman temporarily residing in the village where he was killed. Police continue to investigate the murder. SFM
