Couple caught smuggling drugs into Pangasinan jail

DAGUPAN CITY — A couple ended up being detained on Sunday (June 11) after they tried to smuggle prohibited drugs into the Pangasinan provincial jail in Lingayen town while visiting a relative detained there.

Manuel Aguilar, 37, and his wife, Janice, 37, of Mangatarem town, were visiting their cousin, Mardin Hero Suyat, at about 3 p.m. when a jail guard found the prohibited drugs in the pockets of a pair of short pants tucked inside a bag intended for Suyat.

Seized were a strip of an aluminum foil strip with shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) residue and a small rolled paper with marijuana.

The couple were turned over to the Lingayen police station, where they are now detained.

Police said the couple would be charged with violation of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.  SFM/rga
