LPA off Iba, Zambales may develop into tropical depression

The state weather bureau has spotted a low pressure area (LPA) off Iba, Zambales which may develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 to 48 hours.

In its latest weather advisory issued at 11 a.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was detected at 10 a.m. 370 kilometers west northwest of Iba, Zambales.

The LPA is expected to bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Bataan, Zambales and Mindoro, Pagasa said.

The LPA is also expected to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 to 48 hours outside the Philippine area of responsibility, Pagasa said.

The state weather bureau also issued a thunderstorm advisory over Metro Manila and nearby areas which may last for two hours.

In its latest thunderstorm advisory issued at 1:45 p.m., Pagasa said a thunderstorm is affecting Metro Manila and nearby areas like Cainta, Taytay, Angono and Binangonan in Rizal; Los Baños, Calamba, Liliw and Cabuyao in Laguna; and Sto.Tomas, Tanauan and Talisay in Batangas.

The thunderstorm may last for two hours and it may affect other areas of Rizal, Laguna and Batangas within the next hour, Pagasa said.

“All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flash floods. Keep monitoring for updates,” Pagasa said./rga
