MANILA, Philippines — A 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Bukidon Monday left three people injured and at least five houses damaged, according to a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and management Council (NDRRMC).
The injured victims were identified as Marife Caseres, 35, Gerald Caseres, 3, and Daisy Suarez, 29. They were all treated at the Abella Hospital in Valencia City for minor injuries.
Five houses were reported damaged in Purok 20-A, Barangay (village) Poblacion, Valencia City.
The quake caused a blackout in Valencia City while 40 patients in the Sanitarium Hospital had to be evacuated due to the tremor.
The NDRRMC report said that Intensity 5 was recorded in Valencia City, Intensity 3 was recorded in Quezon and Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Intensity 2 was recorded in Cagayan de Oro City, and Intensity 1 was recorded in Hibok-hibok, Camiguin.
The report, quoting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said that the earthquake was of tectonic origin and was detected at one kilometer below the surface of Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
The authorities have performed damage assessment of the affected hospital building. Electricity was also partially returned at about 7:55 p.m.
