Joavan Fernandez stepped out of the Palace of Justice beaming.
Regional Trial Court Judge Enriqueta Belarmino of Branch 57 ordered the release of Joavan who posted bail after he was arrested on charges of illegal drug possession yesterday.
Police released Joavan, the adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, from their custody at 4:35 p.m.
The Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) arrested him in Talisay City around noon.
It was the second time the IDMB arrested Joavan in less than two weeks.
Joavan is facing a string of charges for ramming his vehicle into a police car driven by IDMB Chief Insp. George Ylanan last Feb. 6.
In an interview, Joavan said he has no plans of filing charges against the police officers who arrested him.
“I am not going to file a case against them. It was good because Ylanan and I became friends. Ylanan and Cebu City Police Director Ramon are good,” Joavan told Cebu Daily News.
Police brought Joavan to the Palace of Justice yesterday afternoon where he posted a surety bond to satisfy the P200,000 bail on charges of illegal possession of drugs.
The court scheduled his arraignment on June. 16.
Police recovered 20 plastic sachets or 1.29 grams of shabu in a Honda Civic that Joavan drove last Feb. 6.
The Honda Civic was abandoned by Joavan in barangay Carreta, Cebu City, after he rammed the vehicle into a police car driven by Ylanan.
Joavan is also facing charges of malicious mischief and direct assault in relation to the incident.
