CEBU CITY — Gino Arvin Baguio Santos of the South Western University (SWU) Phinma in Cebu carried the flag for the province’s higher learning institutions when he ranked 6th in the latest dentist board examination.

Santos garnered a grade of 83.03 percent in last May’s licensure exams, making him the only Cebuano in the Top 10 of the latest exams.

Santos’ Top 10 performance follows on the heels of Visayas’ universities excellent performance in the latest bar examination, when Visayan graduates dominated the Top 10 and shut out prestigious law schools in Metro Manila such as the University of the Philippines Diliman, Ateneo de Manila and other high caliber law schools in the country’s capital.

Cebu universities are particularly conscious of excelling in professional licensure examinations as these victories heighten the prestige and credibility of their colleges.

Topping this year’s dentistry examination was Alexa Eline Trinidad Tajud of the Centro Escolar University- Manila with a grade of 86.04 percent.

The list of top examinees and successful passers was posted on Tuesday on the website of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

The PRC announced that only 397 of the 857 examinees passed the written phase of the exams.

At least 349 of the 402 examinees passed the examination’s practical phase administered by the Board of Dentistry in Manila in May.

Board Members who administered the examination include Dr. Rannier Reyes, officer-in-charge, and members Dr. Gloria Bumanlag, Dr. Melinda Garcia, Dr. Roberto Tajonera and Dr. Maria Jona Godoy.

The PRC website said that the issuance of the professional identification cards and certificates of registration will start on June 27 although the schedule of the oath taking will be announced later.  SFM
