Capacio to coach patriots
FORMER PBA star and PBL champion coach Glenn Capacio has been given the reigns to the AirAsia Philippine Patriots as the squad gears up for the third season of the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League which starts January next year.
Patriots co-team owner Mikee Romero and team manager Erick Arejola announced Capacio’s appointment during a recent team practice, ending weeks of speculations on who will handle the team that is seeking to reclaim its crown in the regional tournament.
A former head coach of Far Eastern University in the UAAP, Capacio has steered Oracle Residences (formerly Harbour Centre) to the 2009 PBL championship—the franchise’s seventh and last crown in the now-defunct league. Capacio took over from Letran mentor Louie Alas, who begged off this time to take a much-needed rest.
Capacio said the team needs to work extra hard to clinch a return trip to the finals. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
