A Muslim lawmaker on Monday filed a bill that seeks to grant a special bonus and cash gift to all state workers during the celebration of two Muslim festivities declared as holidays.
In proposing the measure, “An Act Authorizing Annual Eid Ul-Fitr/Eid Ul-Adha Bonus to National and Local Government Officials and Employees,” Lanao del Sur Representative Mohammed Pangandaman said, “Aside from employer-given perks like the holiday/Christmas bonus, our Muslim/Christian national/local government officials and employees may likewise be allotted a special bonus identified with the two-day religious observance of Eid-ul Fitr and Eid-ul Adha which involve days of fasting and celebration.”
Under the bill, all national and local government officials and employees with at least four months of service prior to the celebration of Eid Ul-Fitr and Eid Eid Ul-Adha shall receive a bonus equivalent to one fourth of his/her basic salary and an additional cash gift of P1,000.
