Free bus rides on Edsa as MMDA marks 36 years

Free bus rides for the public along Edsa are among the highlights of Tuesday’s festivities as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) celebrates its 36th founding anniversary.

In a statement, MMDA chair Francis Tolentino said the agency would be deploying buses along Edsa where commuters could catch the free commute.

“This would be a memorable day not just for the MMDA but for the entire Metro Manila. At 36 years, we have come a long way, we have endured and persevered, and we will still be here for decades to come, providing basic, metro-wide services within Metro Manila,” the official said.

Some 500 employees would also be participating in a five-kilometer fun run from Bonifacio Global City to the MMDA headquarters at Orense in Makati City, starting 5:30 a.m.

Tolentino would also lead the agency at the morning flag-raising ceremony followed a somewhat parade of troops by traffic enforcers, who would be called traffic constables once the name change takes effect in two weeks.

Metro Manila mayors from the 17 cities and one municipality along with their spouses were expected to attend the day’s activities.

This year’s celebration is dubbed “MMDA @ 36: Maasahan, Kabalikat sa Pagbabago.”
