Suspect in blast charged

A 43-year-old man tagged by police as responsible for the explosion in Valenzuela City that hurt four children on Sunday was charged on Monday.

Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor, Valenzuela police chief, said Jose Allan Policarpio, 43, underwent inquest proceedings in relation to charges of physical injury under the Republic Act No. 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law at the city prosecutor’s office.

Mayor said an unidentified type of explosive went off Sunday afternoon at the gate of a compound in Barangay General T. De Leon and injured four children who were passing by.

Mayor said bystanders saw Policarpio drop a “heavy” object at the compound’s gate before the blast.

“When he went back to his house, the explosion occurred,” Mayor said.
