Suspect in killing of anti-drug cop slain

SAN PEDRO CITY — A man wanted for the killing of an anti-drug policeman in Valenzuela City was killed in a police operation in Antipolo City in Rizal province, the police said Saturday.

Rizal police director Sr.Supt. Albert Ocon said the suspect Jaylord Lovina also known as “Elord,” 20, was slain after he initiated a firefight with members of the Antipolo and Valenzuela police who came to arrest him in his home in Barangay (village) San Jose around 3 a.m. Friday.

Ocon said Lovina was wanted for the killing of Police Officer 2 Noel Cabangan, a member of the Valenzuela Drug Enforcement Unit, on May 23.

“However, instead of a peaceful surrender (Lovina) fired at the pursuing operatives,” Ocon said. The police fired back.

Ocon said the suspect was wounded and brought to a hospital but he died.

Meanwhile, Lovina’s female companion, Angelica Gurang, 17, was arrested and detained at the Valenzuela police station.
