COPS CHARGED
TWO American nationals filed a string of complaints against Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) Chief George Ylanan and seven policemen for arresting them in 2009 for keeping a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room.
Michael Lopez and Andre Breeding accused the police officers of arbitrary detention, kidnapping, harassment and neglect of duty before the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas yesterday, Aside from Ylanan, also named respondents were PO3 Cesar Pandong, PO3 Vilma Abayan, PO2 Roy Carlo Veloso, PO1 Albert Luardo, PO1 Frederick Ybanez and a still-unidentified police officer.
Police arrested Lopez, Breeding and boxing promoter Perry McNeely after they allegedly brought a girl inside a hotel room on Dec. 2, 2009.
The three Americans were charged in court for violating Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Act.
The charges against Lopez and Breeding were dismissed after the private complainant failed to appear in court. The case against McNeely was junked by another court after the complainant withdrew the charges against him.
Lopez and Breeding said the police officers falsely implicated them in the crime.

MAN FOUND DEAD
A 58-YEAR-OLD father was found dead at home with a gunshot wound in his head in barangay Busay, Cebu City.
A .45-caliber pistol was found under a table near the body of Eugene Michael Pena Tenazas. His son Eugene Michale Jr. told police that his father had been hounded by financial problems.
Police said the father was the only person in the kitchen where his body was found. Police said there were no signs of foul play in the man’s death, an apparent suicide, but that a routine paraffin test would be conducted on the victim and his son to check for gunpowder residue. /CHITO O. ARAGON
