Man who died of hunger found in Marikina City

MANILA, Philippines—A man believed to have died of hunger was found in Marikina City by concerned citizens in the area, Senior Police Officer 1 Maniel Laison of Marikina said Monday.

The man, identified as Dexter Salazar, 25, through a driver’s license found in the left pocket of his shorts, was seen dead in front of building 335 JP Rizal Street, Sta. Ilena, Marikina City at around 10:20 a.m., Laison said.

“Nung pumunta ako kanina, nakita ko itong lalake na tirik ang mata at payat na payat. Malamang na namatay ito sa pagkagutom (When I got here earlier, I saw this extremely emaciated man who probably died of hunger),” Laison said, saying he is probably not a victim of murder as there were no external indications that proves such.

According to him, concerned citizens said they last saw Salazar alive Sunday afternoon, lying on the sidewalk and not in a very good condition.

Laison said his license shows he is a resident of Antipolo Street in Quezon City. The police are now contacting his family to inform them of the incident.

Salazar was found wearing a yellow T-shirt, khaki shorts and black rubber shoes. His remains are now at the Philippine National Police Crime Lab for further investigation, Laison said.
