Aiming for a greener community, the local government of Santander, Cebu, in cooperation with Danix Distributors, planted 300 molave trees along the roadside of barangay Looc on May 15.
Dranix president Antonio Yap, vice president Rizel Co and the Dranix staff planted trees with Sen. Miguel Zubiri, the chairman of the committee on cooperatives and environment.
Santander Vice Mayor Wilson Wenceslao said caring for the environment was a priority of his administration when he was still mayor and he asked the support of the citizens in the cause.
After the tree-planting activity, a Mass, which was attended by 1,500 indigent children and their parents, was held. A gift-giving at the grounds of Santander Central School followed.
Five kilos of rice and P500 worth of grocery items from Dranix Distributors, a local distributor of assorted commodities, was randomly given to a child from a poor family.
Wenceslao said they are now on their third year in this tree planting and gift-giving activities. Each year, he chose one barangay to be the recipient of the tree-planting program.
Next year, he said he will increase the number of indigent beneficiaries of the gift-giving to 2,500.
Dranix also distributed bells to the public schools of the town.
