DID YOU KNOW: ‘Month of the Ocean’

/ 12:06 AM May 24, 2017

May was declared “Month of the Ocean” through Presidential Proclamation No. 57 signed by President Joseph Estrada on Dec. 11, 1998. According to the proclamation, May is the peak fishing season in the Philippines and the celebration allows direct beneficiaries to show their support for caring for the oceans. The Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, and Agriculture spearhead the observance. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
