Metro Brief: Clan feud eyed in security guard’s killing in Pasay

/ 12:03 AM May 24, 2017

Police investigators are looking into “rido” or a clan feud as the motive in the shooting of a pawnshop security guard in Pasay City on Sunday night. Punnex Kadir, 36, a Muslim and resident of Barangay 83, died in the hospital on Monday morning, hours after being shot once in the back of the head while on duty at the pawnshop located on Edsa Rotonda, Barangay 79, Zone 10. Case investigator SPO1 Giovanni Arcinue said their initial investigation showed that the victim had shooed away the suspect who was suspiciously loitering near his post. The suspect, however, pulled out a gun and shot the security guard. The gunman then fled on foot toward Edsa southbound as the victim was rushed to San Juan de Dios Hospital where he died hours later. The investigator said an interview with a barangay official, also a Muslim, raised the possibility that the killing was motivated by rido. —ERIKA SAULER
