Barangay councilor nabbed in Sorsogon drug bust
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — A barangay kagawad (village councilor) was arrested by the police in a drug bust in Sorsogon City on Sunday.
Supt. Nonito Furio Marquez, spokesperson of the Sorsogon provincial police, said policemen confiscated from Emmanuel Atutubo Ebio, 54 — a village councilor of Poblacion in Bacon district — a plastic sachet containing suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P13,000 during a buy bust operation in his village at past 6 p.m.
Supt. Dionesio Laceda, chief of the Sorsogon City police, said Ebio was considered a high value target on the police drug watchlist.
On March 4, all 64 villages of the city had been declared drug-free by the city’s anti-drug abuse council.
Laceda, however, said an oversight committee would validate the report before reverting the village’s “drug-free” status back to “drug-affected.” SFM/rga
