LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Two policemen were wounded in an encounter with a band of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Lucban town in Quezon province on Wednesday, police said.
Initial report said policemen from the 5th Maneuver Platoon of Quezon Police Public Safety Company encountered an undetermined number of NPA rebels in the boundary of Barangay (village) Kalangay and Mahabang Parang around 12 noon.
Senior Supt. Rhoderick Armamento, Quezon police provincial director, said the still unidentified policemen sustained minor gunshot wounds.
Armamento, who went to the encounter site, said the firefight was still ongoing as of 2 p.m.
On Sunday, four suspected NPA rebels destroyed two heavy equipment owned by a private road contractor in Barangay Kalyaat in Lucban town.
On the same day, a band of suspected NPA rebels also attacked the base of another private contractor in nearb Majayjay town in Laguna province.
Army soldiers successfully repelled the attacking communist guerillas but two soldiers were wounded during the siege. SFM
