Taguig student tops world math contest
Farrell Eldrian Wu, an 11-year-old Math wizard from Taguig City, has done it again.
That is, making the country proud by winning an international mathematics competition.
This time, Wu, a Grade 6 student of MGC New Life Christian Academy in Taguig, topped the primary division’s individual contest in the just-concluded World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC), held from November 2 to 6 in Jiuhua, China.
The good news was relayed to the Inquirer Sunday by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Phils. (MTG), which trained Wu, and the other members of the Philippine math team who took part in the competition.
Aside from Wu, two other elementary school students also won gold medals in the seven-nation WMTC: Clyde Wesley Ang from Chiang Kai Shek College in Manila and Miguel Lorenzo Ildesa from Paref-Westbridge School in Iloilo.
The team’s four silver medals came courtesy of Andrea Jaba from St. Jude Catholic School and Sedrick Scott Keh from Xavier School in the primary division; and Ma. Czarina Angela Lao from St. Jude Catholic School; and Raenelle Ean Ngo from Chiang Kai Shek College in the middle school division.
