Wayward truck hits 2 women waiting for a ride on sidewalk

An Isuzu Elf truck lost control while traversing the northbound lane of the McArthur Highway in Valenzuela City on Sunday morning, hitting and injuring a woman and her daughter who were waiting for a bus.

Cecilla Aquino and her 20-year-old daughter Danica, of Malabon City, were rushed to the nearest hospital after sustaining serious injuries from the accident, Police Officer 2 Rodolfo Zulueta, traffic investigator said.

The incident happened in front of the South Super Market in Barangay (village) Karuhatan, Valenzuela City, at around 11 a.m. just as the woman

and her daughter were about to board a bus going home.

Initial investigation showed that the truck (WMH 579) driven by Sixto Baldado lost its brakes and careened into the sidewalk, hitting the two women.

No one inside the bus was reported hurt.

Zulueta said he had no knowledge about the condition of the two victims but said that according to the Valenzuela rescue team which assisted the victims, the injuries were serious.

The driver of the truck was taken into police custody.

The Valenzuela police are now preparing to file the necessary charges against him.
