PNP execs relieved over rebel raids

BAYOMBONG, NUEVA VIZCAYA—Chief Supt. Eliseo Rasco, Cagayan Valley police director, was relieved from his post on Friday, a day after New People’s Army (NPA) rebels overran a police outpost in Amulung town in Cagayan province. Rasco was replaced by Chief Supt. Robert Quenery, former chief of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, said Chief Insp. Chevalier Iringan, regional police information officer. Senior Supt. Amorsolo dela Cruz, Cagayan police director, was also relieved from his post, while Chief Insp. Reymund Asistores, Amulung police chief, was replaced immediately after the police outpost in Barangay Annafatan was raided by NPA rebels on Thursday. Iringan did not give the reason for Rasco’s relief but police sources said it was triggered by the series of attacks carried out by the NPA in the region since March. —MELVIN GASCON
