BOC alert raised for used clothes

The Bureau of Customs had issued alert orders for 22 containers of used clothing worth P55 million at the Cebu International Port.

Verne Enciso, chief of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Services at the Cebu International Port, said the containers were consigned to the Hideka Manufacturing Corporation.

The 22 containers arrived in the country on different dates in March and April, and were the subject of three alert orders issued by the BOC.

The shipments came from China, America, India, Korea and Australia.

The Hideka Manufacturing Corporation is one of the locators at the Mactan Export Processing Zone II in Lapu-Lapu City. The firm reportedly wanted to convert the used clothing into rags. —JULIE M. AURELIO
