DID YOU KNOW: Order of National Artist

The Order of National Artist is a rank, title and award that represent the highest national recognition given to Filipinos who made distinct contributions in music, dance, theater, visual arts, literature, film and broadcast arts, and architecture or allied Arts. The Order was established under Presidential Proclamation No. 1001 signed on April 27, 1972. The same proclamation posthumously conferred the award on painter Fernando Amorsolo, the first National Artist. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
