LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Policemen and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources agents have recovered a pile of abandoned and illegally sourced lumber in Mauban town in Quezon province, police said Tuesday.

Senior Supt. Rhoderick Armamento, Quezon police provincial director, said the cops and DENR personnel, acting on reports from concerned citizens, found 40 pieces of sawn lumber from “white lauan” and “tangisang bayawak” species near Mauban-Cavinti (Laguna) road in Barangay (village) San Roque around 5:20 p.m. on Monday.

The seized lumber measuring 470 board feet were worth P18,000, police said.

“Aside from the war against drugs and other criminal activities, Quezon police are also focused on combating environmental rapists,” Armamento said. The confiscated forest products were taken by DENR monitoring center in Barangay Polo.  SFM/rga
