Philippine Pediatric Society slates essay contest

The Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS), a nationwide organization of over 4,200 pediatricians, is sponsoring an essay-writing contest on November 11 as part of its Diamond Jubilee celebration.

The on-the-spot essay writing contest is open to third-year high school students in the public schools nationwide on the theme: “Creating Sound Minds and Bodies: Health and Education Working Together.”

Nationwide tilt

The PPS has partnered with the SM Cares Program, the advocacy arm of SM Supermalls, in conducting the contest that will be held simultaneously in the 11 PPS chapters throughout the country.

The contest will be held at The Block, SM City North Edsa, in Metro Manila; the SM Malls in Dasmariñas, Cavite; Pampanga, and Baguio, Naga, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro cities; St. Paul’s Hospital in northeastern Luzon; SMED Center in Tacloban City and the Davao Public High School.

The essays “will serve as a guide for the PPS and government agencies in formulating effective programs for the youth in the future,” said Dr. Rosemarie Jean L. Jaucian-Poblete, chair of the PPS diamond organizing committee.

The PPS is celebrating its 65th anniversary with the theme: “PPS Nurtures the Filipino Child: The Making of a Global Leader.”

Great year

“It will be a year of thanksgiving for all our successes and achievements as leaders in pediatric care, education, training and research for the past 65 years,” said Jaucian-Poblete.

The PPS president is Dr. Genesis Rivera while Dr. Ma. Luisa Peralta is overall chair of the diamond anniversary celebration.
