A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off Surigao del Sur on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, hit 22 kilometers northeast of Tandag town at 9:19 a.m. It had a depth of 28 kilometers.

Instrumental Intensity II was felt in Bislig, Surigao Del Sur, while Intensity I was recorded in Borongan, Eastern Samar.

Intensity IV was reported in Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur; Intensity III in Surigao City and Socorro, Surigao Del Norte; and Intensity II in Butuan City.

No damages were reported but aftershocks were expected, Phivolcs said. CBB/rga
