The number of fire incidents in Metro Manila decreased during the first quarter of the year, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
BFP-National Capital Region chief Senior Supt. Wilberto Kwan Tiu said on Tuesday that fires recorded during the first three months of the year reached 1,217, down from 1,381 incidents reported during the same period in 2016.
“There was a slight reduction and two local government units—Pateros and San Juan—had zero structural fires during Fire Prevention Month [March],” Kwan Tiu told reporters.
He said that Quezon City had the highest number of fire incidents at 283, followed by Manila with 199 while Valenzuela City had 135.
The leading causes of fire were faulty electrical connection (578 cases), lighted cigarette butts (191 cases) and open flames (37), he added.
