A drug suspect was killed while a police officer was wounded in an antidrug operation in Taguig City early Tuesday. The Southern Police District (SPD) identified the fatality as Norodin Mamalinta, who allegedly fired at policemen in Purok 9, PNR site, Western Bicutan, around 4:50 a.m. PO1 Mark Anthony Budao was wounded and brought to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City for treatment. He was reportedly in stable condition at press time. Supt. Jenny Tecson, SPD spokesperson, said Mamalinta was a suspect in the killing of a drug peddling suspect, Rufo Daro, 51, whose body was found by barangay watchmen in Purok 1, PNR Site, on Sunday. Ex-convict slain in Tondo a month after Bilibid release
An ex-convict released from prison just last month and had started a new life as a tricycle driver was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Manila early Monday morning. Christopher Pulintan, who served eight years at New Bilibid Prison for frustrated murder, was ambushed around 2 a.m. while driving at the Permanent Housing area in Balut, Tondo. The 32-year-old Pulintan was then traveling with his live-in partner when shot in the head and body by the gunman, who covered his face with a white mask. According to PO3 Roderick Magpale, the case investigator from the Manila Police District, Pulintan was released from the NBP in March and had since figured in several altercations in his neighborhood reportedly because of his rough personality. Authorities have yet to determine the killer’s identity and motive at press time.—Jovic Yee
Phil. Dental Association confab set April 30-May 5
The Philippine Dental Association (PDA) will hold its 108th annual convention and scientific session from April 30 to May 5 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. With the theme “PDA: Challenging the Next Generation of Leaders,” the convention will feature foreign and local speakers on emerging trends and discoveries in the dental practice, according to PDA president Dr. Carlos Buendia and Dr. Mark Villalobos, PDA president-elect and general chair of the convention. A prescientific convention seminar, “Anesthesiology and Management of Medical Emergencies,” will be presented on April 30, with Dr. Stanley Malamed, eminent dentist anesthesiologist, author and diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology as speaker.
