Avoid Quiapo area on Good Friday, police tells motorists

The Quiapo church and surrounding streets will be the center of Good Friday rites which has prompted the Manila police to advise motorists to take alternative routes to avoid the vicinity. NIÑO JESUS ORBETA

The Manila Police District (MPD) on Thursday advised motorists in Manila to take alternative routes because of the 4 p.m. procession of Santo Entierro and Mater Dolorosa on Good Friday.

Before that, the image of the Black Nazarene will be brought out for procession.

In its advisory, the Manila police told commuters to take note of the other routes and road closures.

The procession will start from Plaza Miranda, proceed to Evangelista Street then left to Paterno Street, left to Gomez Street and then to Palanca Street thru under the Quezon Bridge.

From Palanca Street, it will turn right to G. Puyat Street through Guzman Street, right to Hidalgo Street, Left to Bautista, right to Globo de Oro all the way to Palanca Street.

North bound lane of Quezon Boulevard from Quezon Bridge and the Bridge to G. Puyat street will be closed to traffic.

MPD said all vehicles traveling north bound of P. Burgos and Taft Avenue should use the north bound lane of Quezon Boulevard, straight to MacArthur and Jones Bridge to point of destination. CBB
