BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental — A radio broadcaster was jailed for allegedly killing his wife on Wednesday night in Barangay 2 Poblacion, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Mody Andalina, blocktimer of the MBC Radyo Natin in northern Negros, will be subjected to a paraffin test at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, to determine if he fired a gun, according to the police.
He was arrested after the police noticed a gun inside his handbag when he went to the police station to report the killing of his wife, Virginia, 33.
Virginia succumbed to a gunshot wound in her upper right back. She was declared dead on arrival by physicians at the Lopez District Foundation Hospital in Sagay, Corpuz said.
Chief Inspector Eduardo Corpuz, Sagay City police chief, said the broadcaster was drunk when he went to the police station about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday to report that his wife, Virginia, was killed after he and Virginia were ambushed about two hours ago.
While the police were forming a team to hunt down the supposed perpetrators, one of the policeman noticed a gun inside Mody’s bag which was opened.
They then asked him to bring out the contents of his bag for inspection and the police found a .22-caliber Magnum revolver with three empty shells and two live ammunition.
The police then arrested Mody when they noticed that his hand had traces of what seemed like powder burns and that the gun’s cartridge had bloodstains, said Corpuz.
Investigation showed that the couple had a heated argument prior to the shooting.
Police have received reports of an accidental shooting.
But Corpuz said the victim was shot at close range, leading him to believe that the suspect shot his wife while she was sitting on the front seat of a passenger tricycle, while he was sitting at the back.
One of the empty shells recovered had bloodstains, Corpuz said. SFM/rga
