AFP won’t yet confirm death of Abu leader

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has yet to confirm the reported death of a top leader of the Islamic militant group Abu Sayyaf in Mindanao following an encounter in January.

AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año on Tuesday after President Duterte declared that Isnilon Hapilon, who is on the United States’ list of “Most Wanted Terrorists,” has been wounded in military airstrikes.

Hapilon was indicted in Washington for his involvement in the 2001 kidnapping of three Americans in the Philippines.—CYNTHIA D. BALANA
