CEBU CITY — A skateboarder from Lapu-Lapu city in Cebu was arrested by the police shortly after he allegedly stabbed to death two women in a beach resort in Barangay Solangon, San Juan town in Siquijor province at 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Michael Malayo, 34, tried to escape but was collared by the operatives of the San Juan Police Station.
Senior Supt. Erson Digal, director of the Siquijor Provincial Police Office, said in a phone interview that Malayo reportedly got mad at the two victims—Nikki Piñero, 21; and Loreen Ramirez, 17—who he believed told another skateboarder that he was using marijuana.
“The suspect approached the two victims and stabbed them using a knife,” said Digal.
Piñero, who was three months pregnant, and Ramirez were rushed to the Siquijor Provincial Hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of Malayo.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were one plastic pack of marijuana and six pieces of kitchen knives with blood stains.
Based on the police investigation, Malayo was drunk when he stabbed the victims.
Multiple murder charges are set to be filed against Malayo at the provincial prosecutor’s office in Siquijor.
Malayo, who attended a skateboarding competition in the area, was detained at the San Juan police station in Siquijor. JE/rga
