Lyceum, Mapua affiliate to open campuses in Davao

DAVAO CITY—Two Metro Manila-based educational institutions, including President Duterte’s alma mater, Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), are opening their campuses here next year. Construction of the LPU campus along Buhangin Diversion Road here will start next week, according to Dr. Peter Laurel, LPU president for Laguna and Batangas. Laurel said among the reasons LPU chose Davao was the city’s stable peace and order situation. Duterte, LPU’s most outstanding alumnus in 2015, earned his political science degree at the university’s Manila campus in 1968. The Mapua Institute of Technology’s Malayan Colleges will also start operating here. The Yuchengco-led private educational institution is building its facilities on a 2.3-hectare lot in Barangay Matina in Talomo district. MIT’s Davao campus will be named Malayan Colleges Mindanao. —JUDY QUIROS
