Special PNP team to probe lipo death

The police have formed a special team to investigate the case of a 29-year-old businesswoman who died after undergoing multiple cosmetic surgery procedures in Mandaluyong City on Sunday.

“Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Shiryl Saturnino” will be led by Eastern Police District (EPD) deputy director for operations, Senior Supt. Marcelino Pedrozo, according to EPD director, Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula.

Two doctors from the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory; a team of medical experts; Mandaluyong police chief, Senior Supt. Joaquin Alva; and the city police’s investigation team will also be part of the probe team.

According to a report submitted by Chief Insp. Jose Villarta, Mandaluyong police investigation unit head, Saturnino died at 3:21 a.m. on Sunday at The Icon Clinic on Shaw Boulevard after she underwent breast revision, liposuction and butt surgery.

On Wednesday, Saturnino’s cousin, Shiela Mae Deinla, who accompanied her to the clinic said in her affidavit that she did not notice anything unusual about the victim before she underwent the three operations.

Sapitula told reporters that they would seek the help of medical experts to check if there was negligence or possible lapses on the part of the clinic.

The SITG will also look into the effects of performing multiple surgeries simultaneously and if it was normal for these to be done early in the morning.
