PNP nabs 4 members of kidnap gang targeting Indian nationals

The Philippine National Police’s Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP AKG) has recently neutralized a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate targeting Indian nationals in the country.

The AKG arrested Gurmeet Singh, also an Indian national, and three other members of the syndicate in separate operations in Nueva Ecija over the weekend.

Singh was the primary suspect behind the kidnapping of victim Harvinder Singh in Barangay (village) Sta. Barbara, Llanera town of Nueva Ecija last March 9.  The victim was freed last Saturday.

PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and AKG chief Senior Supt. Glenn Dumlao presented the suspects to the media in a press conference at Camp Crame on Monday.

During the arrests, police recovered three handguns, a grenade and P600,000 cash, which the kidnap victim’s family paid as ransom money.

Police identified Singh’s accomplices who were also arrested as Jerry Cabading and Francis Castro, both from Lupao town, and Gregorio Peña from Rizal town.

But the PNP AKG has yet to arrest the leader of the syndicate identified as Kikker Singh, who is still in hiding.

Dela Rosa said the group is believed to be involved in eight other kidnapping for ransom cases, mostly involving Indian victims, in Pampanga, Bataan, Nueva Ecija and Metro Manila, including the kidnapping of Rakesh Kumar Sanny Singh in Nueva Ecija last May.
