ILOILO CITY — A 37-year-old woman was stabbed dead by her drunken husband following an argument on Saturday night in Barangay Agcuyawan Calsada, Barotac Viejo town in Iloilo province.

Police said Ligaya Valdez was angry that her husband, Carlos, 40, went home drunk, said Chief Insp. Raymund Celoso, Barotac Nuevo police chief.

An argument broke out. At one point, Ligaya hit her husband who was allegedly a battered husband, according to initial investigation, Celoso said.

“This pushed the husband to stab his wife repeatedly,” Celoso said.

The victim suffered six stab wounds – three in the back, two in the neck and one in the chest.

Valdez was declared dead on arrival at the Barotac Nuevo District Hospital.

Carlos fled but later surrendered to the police station in nearby Dumangas town where he was detained to face charges.  SFM/rga
