Malacañang lauded the celebration of Earth Hour on Saturday, saying the Duterte administration remained committed to addressing climate change issues even as it pursued development.

“This occasion is a good reminder of our commitment to fight climate change and our solidarity to the rest of the world in spreading the message that while we pursue economic development programs, we continuously aspire for sustainable, climate change-resilient living,” presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.

The Philippines has been an active participant in the annual event that has homes, offices, and other establishments switching off their lights for an hour starting 8:30 p.m. as a symbol of their commitment to protect the planet.

Earth Hour is a global environmental movement started by the World Wide Fund for Nature. /atm
