KIDAPAWAN CITY—The city council proposed the banning of yearbooks in public and private schools here to reduce parents’ expenses.
Vice Mayor Joseph Evangelista said some schools require students to buy yearbooks before graduation.
Evangelista, chair of the city council, said parents are finding it difficult to send their children to school, and spending more for yearbooks would be an additional burden for them.
“Yearbook fees add up to the burden of the parents,” he said. The Inquirer learned that in public schools here, yearbooks cost between P1,500 to P1,800. The costs are about double in private schools.
Evangelista said instead of forcing students to buy yearbooks, schools could post pictures of graduating students on the Internet.
The council, he said, would hold consultation meetings with school officials, parents and students before acting with finality on the proposed ordinance.
