New LPA sighted in Mindanao

Summer is just around the corner but parts of Mindanao and the Visayas will still have rains in the next few days after another low pressure area (LPA) developed east of Mindanao early on Sunday.

The weather bureau warned the 10 provinces in the Caraga and Davao regions of moderate to occasionally heavy rains that may trigger flashfloods and landslides beginning today.

Eastern Visayas will have light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the Caraga and Davao regions already experienced light to moderate rains on Sunday.

Pagasa meteorologist Gener Quitlong said the latest weather disturbance would not likely develop into a tropical cyclone.

“However, this will approach the landmass and will cross the Visayas,” he said.

While Northern Mindanao will have rains this week, the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with isolated rains. —DONA Z. PAZZIBUGAN
