2 killed in Batangas, Laguna gun fights with cops

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna — Two crime suspects were killed by the police in separate operations in Batangas and Laguna provinces, the police said.

In Calaca town in Batangas, a suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with the police around 1 a.m. Wednesday, a report from the police headquarters of the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon (Calabarzon) Region.

The police said they received a report that two men broke into a branch of the Jaro pawnshop in Barangay (village) Poblacion. Responding policemen found two men who allegedly opened fire at the authorities. One of the suspects, who has not been identified, was hit and he died in the hospital.

In San Pablo City, Laguna, members of the Laguna Special Operations Group, served a search warrant against five suspects in possession of unlicensed guns in Barangay Santiago around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

But during the operation, the suspects reportedly fired shots prompting the law enforcers to shoot back.

Suspect Christian Manalo was killed in the shootout while Manalo’s cohorts Amate Flores, Sulpicio Barcena and Casio Hanolino were arrested. The fifth suspect, Antonio Ligon, was able to escape.

The police recovered three guns, magazines, and two hand grenades. The warrant was issued by judge Agripino Morga of the regional trial court branches 29 and 32.  SFM
