MANILA, Philippines – Water in Legazpi City, Albay is now safe for drinking, the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has announced.
The Legazpi water district was closed by the local government of Albay after a study conducted by University of the Philippines Natural Sciences and Research Institute found that the water was not safe for drinking.
In an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM Friday, Engineer Antonio Magtibay, Public Affairs Division Director of LWUA, said that there were now lower levels of Magnesium, Calcium Carbonate and total dissolved solids in the water because it has been treated.
Magtibay said that the Legazpi water district has doubled their efforts to prevent the water from becoming contaminated again.
High levels of magnesium has been found to cause the growth of kidney stones, the report said.
