Police rescued last week a businessman, who was kidnapped in Camarines Sur province in November, from a group who held him for almost four months, said Philippine National Police chief, Director General Ronald dela Rosa. The PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) also recovered from the five suspects the P1.2-million ransom paid by the family of the victim, Francis Leo Maulion. In a press briefing in Camp Crame in Quezon City on Monday, Dela Rosa said the AKG and the Bicol regional police pursued the suspects in several locations in Camarines Sur and Albay provinces. Maulion was kidnapped at his poultry farm in Barangay Kamuning in Calabanga town, Camarines Sur on Nov. 23. On March 6, the AKG conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in a firefight and the arrest of the suspects in an upland village in Ragay town. Maulion was rescued in Pasacao town the following day. —PHILIP C. TUBEZA
